In 2025, Medicare will limit everyone’s out-of-pocket expenses for covered prescription drugs to $2,000 a year and introduce the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan, an option to spread prescription costs across the year instead of paying upfront.
This can be especially helpful for those with high-cost prescriptions or chronic conditions.
The new payment plan is voluntary, flexible, and available to opt in through your drug plan at any time during the year. While it may not lower overall costs, it can make budgeting for important prescriptions easier.
